How Many Days Do You Need for the Golden Triangle?

For most travellers, 6 to 8 days is an ideal amount of time for India’s Golden Triangle. This allows you to explore Delhi, Agra and Jaipur at a comfortable pace without spending every day rushing between destinations.
A shorter 4 or 5-day trip is possible, but it will involve faster sightseeing and less free time. If this is your first journey to India, I would recommend allowing at least 6 days.

What Is the Golden Triangle Route?

India’s Golden Triangle connects three of North India’s most famous destinations: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Delhi introduces you to India’s history, monuments and everyday life. Agra is home to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, while Jaipur offers magnificent forts, palaces, colorful markets and Rajasthan’s royal heritage.
The route forms a convenient triangle and is one of the easiest ways for first-time visitors to experience several sides of India in one journey.

Is 5 Days Enough for the Golden Triangle?

Five days is possible if your travel time is limited. A typical itinerary may include around two days in Delhi, one day in Agra and two days in Jaipur.
However, this is a relatively fast-paced journey. You will see the main highlights, but there will be less time for local experiences, relaxed sightseeing or spontaneous stops along the way.

A 6-Day Golden Triangle Itinerary

Six days gives you a better balance between sightseeing and travel.
A typical route could be: Delhi → Agra → Jaipur → Delhi.
You can spend two nights in Delhi, one night in Agra and two nights in Jaipur before returning to Delhi.
This works particularly well for travellers visiting India for the first time and wanting to experience the essential highlights without making the trip too long.

A 7 to 8-Day Golden Triangle Itinerary

Seven or eight days is my preferred option for most private travellers.
The additional time allows you to explore Old and New Delhi more comfortably, visit the Taj Mahal without rushing, enjoy Jaipur’s forts and palaces, and include experiences such as an Old Delhi rickshaw ride, local markets or cultural activities
It also provides more flexibility if you prefer slower mornings or more time at your hotel.

What Are the Highlights of the Golden Triangle?

In Delhi, highlights include Old Delhi, Jama Masjid, India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar.
Agra is best known for the Taj Mahal, but Agra Fort is equally worth visiting.
In Jaipur, travellers can explore Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the famous Hawa Mahal, along with the city’s colourful markets and traditional crafts.

What Is the Best Time for a Golden Triangle Tour?

The most comfortable period for the Golden Triangle is generally October to March, when temperatures across Delhi, Agra and Jaipur are cooler and sightseeing is more pleasant.
December and January can have cool mornings and occasional fog, while February and March often offer pleasant weather. April to June can become very hot, so sightseeing schedules usually need to be adjusted accordingly.

Can You Extend the Golden Triangle?

Yes. The Golden Triangle is an excellent starting point for a longer India journey.
You can add Varanasi for spirituality, Rishikesh for yoga and the Himalayas, Ranthambore for a tiger safari, or continue deeper into Rajasthan to destinations such as Jodhpur and Udaipur.
This makes the Golden Triangle easy to customise according to your interests and available travel time.
